How often do you exercise or participate in your favorite sport? Why do we practice 2-3 times a week when doing a sport, but as Healthcare professionals, we find it acceptable to practice our CPR skills once every 2 years
The old saying that ‘practice makes perfect is no less true in Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) than in any other human activity. The more often we practice our Resuscitation skills, the better our performance, which will lead to better patient outcomes. In the US there are more than 500 000 cardiac arrests annually, and In-Hospital Adult survival is standing at about 23,8%, and Out of Hospital survival at 9.7%
There is strong evidence that High-Quality CPR dramatically improves survival. The RQI system helps healthcare providers maintain their competency and achieve better patient outcomes through regular low-dose/high-frequency training.
In the words of legendary American Football coach Vince Lombardi: “Practice doesn’t make perfect; only perfect practice makes perfect”
